2022 TOURNAMENT RECAP
Ramey Basketball hosted its June 2022 tournament on June 18 & 19th at Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School and other surrounding gyms. Several top teams took center stage to compete in the 3rd thru 8th grade boy divisions tournament. Here is a quick recap of players & teams that caught our eye.
Below is the 3rd Grade through 5th Grade division recap, 6th-8th coming soon!
David Antony of TruVision put on a show and was the top dog in the 2031 division with his ability to score in a variety of ways. Antony is so confident and has an outstanding change of pace and hesitation move that keeps his defenders off balance. Very confident also Antony scores off the bounce with ease as he converted several and 1 finishes through contact. Antony handles the ball well and has very efficient range out to three. He had the gym buzzing all weekend long with his outstanding play.
Class of 2031 Tajae Long of TruVision was a guard that really impressed us with his good instincts and how he played with great control and pace. Long has nice size for a guard his age and was counted on for a lot of his squad who battled against some good teams. Long uses a nice floater to score in the lane as he showed the ability to breakdown and get by defenders with ease.
Bobby Peebles Jr of TruVision, another class of 2032 player who played up a grade, has an outstanding handle and extremely good form from way out to three for his age. He knocked down several long range three pointers on the weekend and did an outstanding job scoring while attacking the rim. Peebles jr is also a high IQ player who is beyond his years in his understanding of the game and is also an outstanding defender.
Another guard who played extremely hard all weekend and just had a nose for the ball was 2031 Kayden Murphy of All Things Retro. Murphy is a very athletic and strong player that did his best work in transition and attacking the rim. We loved how relentless he was on the boards and on defense with his good anticipation.
Amari Hurd of TruVision was one of the smaller players in 2031 division but what he lacked in size he made up for it with toughness and energy. Hurd was a pest on both ends with several steals and good breakdowns to drop nice assists to teammates for easy buckets. He possesses a good handle and speed that allows him to really make an impact of the bounce.
Kane Abby of All Things Retro 2030 is an electric athlete that has a deadly first step. He blew by defenders on the regular and finished at the rim or with nice floaters. Abby has a strong handle that also allows him to create opportunities for himself or others.
Cades Cody-Jackson of TruVision 2031 is a strong defender that stepped up to every challenge on the defensive end. He seemed to always be under control and making the correct plays as he never rushed himself into any trouble. He has a very high IQ for a young player and plays with an extreme level of confidence on the court.
Ja’Khori Battle of the Titans 2030 excelled all weekend with great speed in the open floor, that allowed him to finish in transition. What truly made Ja’Khori stand out was his long-range shooting ability. He knocked down several three pointers at a high percentage. Battle was also a lock down defender that helped his team go undefeated on the weekend.
Amario Roberts of the Titans 2030 is a strong body versatile player that can literally play all 5 positions on the court. He has good handles and passes the ball well that showed a very strong IQ. Roberts also is an outstanding rebounder that got rebounds and pushed in transition that allowed him to either finish at rim or find open teammates. He has extremely good hands and is a very confident player
Jayce-Anthony Wallace of MasterStatus played up a grade level with his team but is in the 2030 class. Wallace is a scoring machine who can score from all 3 levels. He hit several long three pointers after creating space off the bounce with an impressive handle. In one game we watched Wallace scored 12 points in a row in a matter of 90 seconds. Confidence isn’t lacking in his game as he looks to score or make plays at a high level consistently in games. Blessed with a strong and athletic physic, Wallace is easily one of the top players in his grade level.
The Titans 2032 played up in the 2031 division and Miles Anderson showed us a nice ability to score off the bounce. Anderson has a strong handle and utilizes it well as he constantly broke defenders down to score.
Mario Nunley of All Things Retro 2030 is a small lead guard with wicked handles. His ball control was top notch, and he consistently broke defenders down off the bounce to get to spots. Nunley did a good job of drawing fouls that allowed him to get to the free throw line. He is quick and has a really good change of pace that keeps defenders off balance.
Thomas Butler of All Things Retro 2031 impressed us this weekend with his strength, agility, and versatility. Nice size frame that allowed him to easily get to spots, which he used to push the ball and either finish at rim for himself or create easy shots for his teammates.
Josiah Hood of Dreamchasers 2029 showed great court vision and a strong IQ. Hood was dropping dimes all tournament long and getting his teammates easy shots. Hood has a strong burst with the ball that allows him to really push the ball in transition.
Vance Webber of TruVision 2029 has nice size for his age as we charted him at around 6’1-6’2. Blessed with size and good length Webber blocked and altered so many shots on the weekend that made it miserable for opponents to feel comfortable on the offensive end. Webber ran the floor well and showed good hands that allowed him to finish at the rim on the regular. He was a one of the main reasons his very talented team went undefeated on the weekend.
